It was my honor to research newspapers, magazines, online & books to find your Photo. I found this photo in a Online article about your heroic sacrifice. I felt it was necessary to have a photo on this website so that your family & friends can remember you. Rest Easy Hero! Always Remembered!

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.
GOD Bless

After some thought I realized I needed to share more to those that did not know Alfonso(Al)as some of us. After becoming a court officer in 1973 I was assigned to Part B in family court. There I met Al.Billups and Judge Edith Miller. He took me under his wing and tried to teach me everything.40 years later I realize that I never met anyone like him.He thrived for the best career, business etc. but that was not good enough because he showed and wanted you to have the same.He would gather court job applications and handout in Harlem.I remember encouraging a young man who was scrubbing court floors at night to start taking exams. A few years later I saw him in a correction officers uniform . Thank you Al.I worked in the courts 30 years and there was never a fight or altercation with a defendant. He taught me how to gain respect Thank you Al.Years later when ever Judge Edith Miller had a violent defendant before her she would summon me to her court room. No problems. Thank you Al.

Approximately one month after my retirement there was an incident in my court room with my crew. The defendant grabbed an officers gun and got off a shot. Some say it would not have happen if I had been there.I say THANK YOU AL!!

Alphonso and I attended Morristown College, Morristown, TN in the mid-1960s. We became good friends an stayed in touch for several years after finishing Morristown. I am sadden to hear of his passing. I had tried for years to contact Alphonso, but without any luck. I can finally give up my search, now that i know my friend is at rest. Thank you for making this website available.

I never met Alphonso Deal before he made the ultimate sacrifice, coming to the aid of another person on Convent Avenue.

I did however meet him the day he was mortally wounded, and have never forgot him, or his actions in being able to return fire, while severely injured, aiding in his assailant’s capture.

God bless you, Officer Deal, from a cop that will never forget your sacrifice.
